West Bank and Arab countries demonstrate in support of Palestinians

Thousands of people demonstrated again this Friday in the occupied West Bank and in several Arab countries in support of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, bombed by Israel since the Hamas attack on October 7.

Hundreds of Palestinians chanted “Free Gaza” as they marched in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank, waving flags of Hamas and other Palestinian movements, an AFP journalist noted.

On October 7, elements of the Islamist group Hamas infiltrated southern Israel from the Gaza Strip, which they control, carrying out an attack on civilians on a scale and with violence not seen since Israel’s creation in 1948.

According to authorities, more than 1,400 people died on the day of the attack, the vast majority of them civilians.

In response to the attack, Israel declared war to “annihilate” Hamas, bombing the besieged territory incessantly.

More than 7,300 Palestinians, most of them civilians, were killed, according to the Palestinian Islamist movement’s Health Ministry.

At least five thousand people demonstrated in Amman to call for the annulment of the peace treaty between Jordan and Israel and to denounce the Israeli bombings in the Gaza Strip.

In Lebanon, demonstrations occurred in many cities after Friday prayers, especially in the capital, Beirut, and in Tripoli, the country’s second largest city.

In Yemen, a large demonstration was organized in the capital Sanaa, controlled by the Houthi rebels, near Iran.

In Iraq, a demonstration brought together a hundred people in Tahrir Square in Baghdad.
