The United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) stated that thousands of people invaded its warehouses in Gaza to take food and other essential items, the Associated Press (AP) news agency reported this Sunday.
Thomas White, head of the UN agency in Gaza, said Sunday that the invasion was “a worrying sign that civil order is beginning to collapse” after three weeks of war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.
UNRWA provides basic services to hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza.
Its schools spread throughout the territory have been transformed into shelters full of Palestinians displaced by the conflict.
The conflict began on October 7, when Hamas invaded Israel, killing 1,400 people and taking more than 200 hostages. On the Palestinian side there are already more than 7,700 dead and more than 19,000 injured.
