The number of children killed in three weeks in the Gaza Strip exceeds the annual figures of all conflicts since 2019, Save The Children said this Sunday.
“Since October 7, more than 3,257 children have died, including 3,195 in Gaza, 33 in the West Bank and 29 in Israel. The number of children killed in just three weeks in Gaza is greater than the number of children killed in conflict zones around the world. – in more than 20 countries – for an entire year, for the last three years,” it reads in a statement from the non-governmental organization.
“Children represent more than 40% of the 7,703 people killed in Gaza and more than a third of all fatalities in the occupied Palestinian territory and in Israel,” it adds.
In the same note, Save The Children warns that the numbers will increase, particularly after Israel announced the intensification of bombings and the expansion of attacks in the Gaza Strip.
“Three weeks of violence have torn children from their families and destroyed lives at an unimaginable rate. The numbers are terrifying,” reiterates the head of Save The Children in the Palestinian territories, Jason Lee.
The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, causing the death of more than 1,400 people, mainly civilians, according to authorities. More than 200 people were kidnapped and have remained in the hands of the Islamist group since then.
After the attack, Israel responded with bombings and ground raids into the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.
Since the start of the war, more than eight thousand people have died in Gaza, due to the bombings that Israel has been carrying out for three weeks, according to the Ministry of Health of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.
