At least five workers died this Monday in the city of Hamburg, in northern Germany, after a scaffolding fell at a construction site.
“Several people are buried and reported missing,” said the fire brigade spokesman, quoted by the AFP agency. “Five workers died at the scene of the accident,” he said.
Around 70 emergency teams are on the scene trying to save people trapped in the rubble.
The accident occurred in HafenCity, a port neighborhood that became one of the largest urban construction projects in Europe.
According to German newspaper Bild, the scaffolding fell at around 9:10 local time (8:10 in Lisbon) at Westfield Hamburg-Uebersequartier, a new commercial, residential and leisure development, which is expected to include a new cruise terminal. .
Workers were building an elevator shaft. Around 700 workers were removed from the construction site.
