Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian embarked on a regional trip on Tuesday, including to Turkey and Qatar, to discuss issues related to the war in Gaza.
“The agenda of the trip is to exchange views on the crimes of the Israeli regime and the events in Gaza,” Iranian news agency Mehr said, adding that the first stop on the minister’s trip will be Qatar.
According to the same news from Tehran’s official agency, the head of Iranian diplomacy will meet with members of the governments of Qatar and Turkey without specifying further details about the “regional round.”
Abdolahian made a similar trip shortly after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. At the time, the Iranian minister traveled to Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Qatar, where he met with his respective counterparts.
In Doha, he held a meeting with the head of Hamas’s political bureau, Ismail Haniya.
On Monday, Iran announced that it is mediating with Hamas on the possible release of non-Israeli hostages who are still kidnapped in Gaza.
Several countries have asked Iran to intervene, including Ireland, where a national has been kidnapped by Hamas, Tehran’s foreign minister said.
According to the Israeli government, the Hamas attack left 1,400 dead, 5,000 injured, and 229 people were kidnapped.
Since the Hamas attack, Israel has launched bombardments on the enclave, killing 8,306 people and wounding 21,048, according to Palestinian sources. ?????
