The office of the Ukrainian head of state announced on Wednesday the reconquest of five towns in the southern region of Kherson, where Ukrainian forces maintain a counteroffensive, pushing back Russian troops in the area.
“The Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated five towns in the Beryslav district, Kherson region: Novovasylivka, Novogrygorivka, Nova Kamianka, Tryfonivka, Chervone”, specifies the note from the Ukrainian presidency.
Ukrainian forces have been carrying out a counteroffensive in the region controlled by Russian forces for several weeks since the beginning of the new invasion that began on February 24.
According to kyiv, military operations against Russian forces in the region intensified in October, especially in areas near the Dnieper River, south of the industrial city of Kryvyi Rig.
According to kyiv, the main objective of the offensive is to affect the supply lines of the Russian forces in Kherson, one of the four regions recently annexed by Moscow.
The annexation process was rejected by Ukraine’s allies.
