Poland detects leak in Druzhba oil pipeline linking Russia with Germany

One of the two lines of the Druzhba oil pipeline, which connects Russia with Germany, was closed after a leak was detected in central Poland, the Polish company PERN announced on Thursday.

“At this time the causes of the incident are unknown; pumping on the damaged line was immediately stopped. Line 2 of the pipeline is operating normally,” PERN said in a statement, adding that the leak was detected Tuesday morning. night.

At the end of September, powerful underwater explosions in the Baltic Sea damaged the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines, which connect Russia with Germany, causing a methane leak.

Washington and Moscow blamed each other for trying to sabotage Russian-built gas pipelines. Clashes between the two countries continued during an emergency UN Security Council meeting in New York, which had been called by Russia to discuss gas pipeline problems.

Sweden and Denmark published a report showing that the leaks had been caused by strong underwater explosions in the Baltic Sea.

The United States has been warning Germany for several years of the risks of becoming dependent on Russian energy.

Attacks on pipelines have prompted energy companies and European governments to tighten security around this energy infrastructure.

These incidents took place after the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 and the subsequent application of sanctions on Russians, especially petroleum products, by Western countries.
