Egypt will help evacuate almost seven thousand foreigners and dual nationals from the Gaza Strip, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this Thursday.
Egypt’s Health Ministry also reported that 21 injured Palestinians were taken to Egyptian hospitals for treatment on Thursday, and 344 foreigners, including 72 children, also crossed the Rafah border crossing.
In a meeting with foreign diplomats, Deputy Foreign Minister Ismail Khairat stated that Egypt is preparing “to facilitate the reception and withdrawal from Gaza of foreign nationals,” representing 60 nationalities.
Hicham Adwan, director of the border point on the Palestinian side, indicated that around a hundred injured people and 400 foreigners and dual nationals are expected to have crossed the border post throughout the day on Thursday.
On Wednesday, 76 Palestinians in ambulances and more than 300 foreigners and dual nationals were evacuated through the Rafah crossing.
According to the Egyptian authorities, among the 76 Palestinians transported there were 46 wounded and 30 people who accompanied them.
Among the foreigners there are about 30 Austrians, four Italians, five French and some Germans.
US President Joe Biden announced this Thursday that 74 citizens with dual nationality and US passports were expelled from the Gaza Strip.
Since October 7, the Gaza Strip has been bombed by Israel in response to an unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on Israeli soil.
The humanitarian situation there is described as catastrophic by the UN and several international organizations.
The Hamas Health Ministry announced this Thursday that 9,061 people, including 3,760 children, have died in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war.
In Israel, more than 1,400 people, mainly civilians, were killed, most during the Hamas attack on Israeli soil on October 7, according to local authorities.
