German police assumed on Sunday that the man who took his four-year-old daughter hostage and drove his car onto the runway at Hamburg airport is not only armed, but also has explosives of an unknown type.
“We have to assume that the man has a firearm and probably also explosives of an unknown type,” the police said via X, formerly Twitter.

The case started at 8 p.m. on Saturday, when the man drove his car into the airport, where he still resides.

Police assured that they had visual contact with the girl.
On Saturday, German police warned travelers not to use Hamburg airport due to the situation.
The airport, located in the northern part of the city, has been closed to passengers since Saturday evening and flights have been cancelled.
Authorities also said the man’s ex-wife had previously contacted them about a child abduction.
A psychologist has been negotiating with the man for four hours and there are no indications that any other people may have been injured as all passengers have already been evacuated from the airport.
