The Ukrainian air force announced that one of its missiles had hit a Russian ship carrying Kalibr cruise missiles at a shipyard in the Crimean port city of Kerch.
The information was confirmed by the Commander of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Mikola Oleschuk, on his Telegram account, after the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported on Saturday that they had attacked maritime and port infrastructure in Kerch, as reported by Ukrinform news agency.
The Russian Defense Ministry, in turn, acknowledged “damage” to a ship, adding that Russian anti-aircraft systems had shot down 13 of 15 cruise missiles launched by Ukraine against the Butoma shipyard.
“Some remains of the fallen rockets fell on the territory of one of the dry docks. There were no casualties,” Crimea Governor Sergei Aksenov said on Telegram, as reported by Russian news agency Interfax.
In April 2022, Moscow confirmed that the warship “Moskva”, one of the most important assets of the Russian fleet, sank while being towed after suffering a fire following an attack by the Ukrainian army.
Ukraine and Russia have been at war for more than a year, since Russian troops invaded Ukrainian territory on February 24, 2022. The Ukrainian region of Crimea was occupied and annexed by Russia in 2014.
Russia has destroyed a missile depot in the center of the country
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that its aircraft had destroyed a missile depot in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region (center), in retaliation for an attack by Kiev on a Russian missile ship in Crimea.
“A warehouse of aerial projectiles of the Ukrainian Air Force was destroyed at the Dnipro airfield in the Dnipropetrovsk region,” the Russian Ministry of Defense reported in its daily war report.
According to the military department, Russian forces also destroyed “aerial equipment” at Mirgorod airport in the Poltava region in the center of the country.
Defense noted that Russian aviation, missiles, artillery and drones generally attacked Ukrainian positions in 133 areas of the country.
Last Saturday, Ukraine attacked a shipyard in the Kerch district of Crimea with British StormShadow missiles, causing damage to the Russian Askold missile carrier based at the facility.
