UN warns that basic food supplies in Gaza could run out in three days

The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) warned this Monday that basic food supplies for Gaza’s civilian population could run out in the next three days.

The supplies that entered the enclave through Egypt are very scarce compared to the needs, mainly foodstuffs intended for immediate consumption such as tuna (canned), rice, energy bars and dates. The flour is destined exclusively for bakeries.

On the other hand, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (OCHA) warned on Sunday that “a limited number” of trucks with humanitarian material managed to cross the Rafah border, without specifying more data on the transit of the goods. vehicles transporting basic aid last weekend.

On October 21, Israel and Egypt accepted the entry of humanitarian aid – with restrictions – and so far 451 shipments have entered Gaza by road, according to data from last week.

According to the latest OCHA report on the humanitarian situation in Palestinian territory, the distribution of food by international organizations to internally displaced people in northern Gaza has practically stopped due to the intensity of Israeli bombing.

It is estimated that around 400,000 civilians still remain in the north of the enclave, including wounded, sick and people who cannot leave the area.

In total, eleven bakeries have been attacked or destroyed in Gaza since October 7, when Hamas attacked Israel, which launched a violent military offensive against the territory.
