The Israeli army announced this Wednesday that it had eliminated one of the main people responsible for arming the Islamist movement Hamas in Gaza and reported the death of a soldier during the offensive.
“Mohsen Abu Zina was one of the main people responsible for arming Hamas and was an expert in the development of strategic weapons and rockets used by Hamas terrorists,” the army said in a statement.
The army killed Abu Zina with a missile launched from a fighter plane, after collecting military information about his location, he added.
Israel also indicated that, during the night, it launched an attack against a group of militiamen who “planned to launch anti-tank rockets against army forces,” killing “several terrorists.”
Separately, the Israel Defense Forces also reported the death of Sergeant Yaacov Ozeri, a member of the Artillery Corps, during fighting in the northern Gaza Strip, bringing the total number of Israeli soldiers killed to 31. in the war against Hamas.
The Israeli military said two soldiers were seriously wounded during the night’s fighting, without giving details.
On October 7, Hamas launched a surprise attack against southern Israel with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of armed militiamen, leaving more than 1,400 dead and more than two hundred hostages.
In response, Israel declared war on Hamas, a movement that has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007 and is classified as terrorist by the EU and the United States, bombing several of the group’s infrastructure in Gaza and imposing a total siege on the territory, cutting off of the supply of water, fuel and electricity.
The Israeli offensive in the enclave has already caused more than 10,300 deaths, almost 26,000 wounded and 2,450 missing, most of them civilians.
