Israeli attacks on Al-Shifa hospital, the largest in the Gaza Strip, intensified “dramatically” overnight, the NGO Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reported this Saturday.
“In recent hours, the attacks on Al-Shifa Hospital have intensified dramatically. Our team at the hospital reported a catastrophic situation at the hospital a few hours ago,” the NGO wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
The organization continues to stand by its call for an end to attacks on hospitals and to protect health facilities, medical staff and patients.
“We cannot withdraw and let people in. As a doctor, I promise to help people who need help,” said Mohamed Obeid, a surgeon cited by Doctors Without Borders.
On Friday, Israeli forces began surrounding Al-Shifa Hospital and several other key hospital centers in Gaza.
The Gaza Strip’s health ministry, which is run by Hamas’s armed wing, said on Friday that at least 20 people were killed in an Israeli attack on Al-Shifa.
More than 11,000 people were killed and nearly 27,500 injured in the Gaza Strip during the war that broke out on October 7, following a Hamas attack on Israel in which 1,200 people were killed and 240 kidnapped.
