Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called on Muslim countries in Riyadh this Saturday to classify the Israeli army as a “terrorist organization” for its armed operation in the Gaza Strip.
In his address to Arab and Muslim leaders gathered in the Saudi capital, Ebrahim Raisi also called on Muslim countries to prepare to “arm the Palestinians” if Israel’s “war crimes” continue.
“The Israeli army must be recognized as a terrorist organization,” the Iranian president said during the emergency meeting of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) dedicated to the war between Israel and Hamas.
Hamas, backed by Iran, which considers it a “liberation movement,” is classified as a terrorist organization by the United States, Canada and the European Union, among others.
“Now that international organizations have become useless, we must play a role,” Raisi added, calling on Muslim countries to sever “all political and economic relations” with Israel, which Iran does not recognize.
The official also called for “a commercial boycott against the Zionist regime, especially in the energy sector.”
Ebrahim Raisi again accused the United States of being Israel’s “main partner” in “these crimes.” “America went straight into the war and sent ships” to the eastern Mediterranean, he said.
Ebrahim Raisi’s trip to Riyadh is his first visit to Saudi Arabia since the surprise announcement in March of the restoration of diplomatic ties between the two Middle Eastern heavyweights after a seven-year hiatus.
After a 36-day war that began on October 7 with Hamas’ attack on Israeli territory that killed more than 1,400 people and kidnapped more than 240 from villages near Gaza, Israeli bombings have killed more than 11,000 people and approximately 27,500 people were injured. , according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, controlled by the Islamist group.
