The High Representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, warned this Saturday that “a strategy that ignores the human costs will not work and will make peace impossible” in Israel and Palestine.
“The way in which Israel defends itself is important,” he stressed in a video message before the congress of the European Socialist Party in Malaga (Spain), cited by the Spanish news agency Efe.
For the head of community diplomacy, it should be possible to criticize the Israeli Government without being described as “anti-Semitic.”
Josep Borrell considered that the situation in Gaza “is a consequence of a political and moral failure of the international community” and that the solution will involve “three no’s and three yes’s.”
“No to the return of the Islamic group Hamas to Gaza, no to the reoccupation of Gaza by Israel and no to the dissociation of the solution for Gaza from the rest of the Palestinian problem as a whole.”
On the other hand, the high representative of the European Union says yes to “the installation of a provisional Palestinian authority in Gaza”, “yes to the involvement of the Arab States” and “yes to greater involvement of the EU in the region” .
After 35 days of war, which began on October 7 with the Hamas attack on Israeli territory, in which more than 1,400 people died and more than 240 were kidnapped in towns near Gaza, Israeli bombings have killed more than 11,000 people and have injured around 27,500. , according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, controlled by the Islamist group.
Hamas is classified as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union and Israel.
