Nearly two thousand police officers took to the streets this Saturday to contain the tension and riots that have marked a pro-Palestinian demonstration in London to call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which mobilized hundreds of thousands of people.

November 11, also known as Armistice Day, which celebrates the end of the First World War, is a day of great significance for the British, who were not indifferent to the intersection of these two purposes.

The British Minister of Administration and the British Prime Minister asked that the pro-Palestine demonstration not take place that day, calling it a “march of hate” and considering it a “provocation and disrespect,” respectively.

This inflammatory language ended up fueling far-right nationalist groups, who decided to join the demonstration, engaging in clashes with the London police to try to break up the main demonstration.

Carrying flags with the cross of St George (red on a white background) and shouting “England to the death”, some tried to reach the cenotaph, a monument honoring the dead of the First World War, during a ceremony to mark the Anniversary of the Armistice .

The group pushed officers and attempted to tear down fences, and police detained at least 92 people.

The riots took place on the sidelines of the pro-Palestine demonstration, which paraded through the streets of London from Hyde Park to the US embassy.

Separating the opposing groups are several police intervention vans to create a kind of safe deposit box.

The organizers, left-wing groups and Muslim organizations such as the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, Friends of Al-Aqsa, the Stop the War Coalition, the Muslim Association, the Palestinian Forum and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, hoped to mobilize a million of people.

Many protesters carried Palestinian flags and signs with messages such as “Free Palestine,” “End the siege” and “Hands off Palestine.”

Among the songs sung were “Occupation Never Again” and “Israel is a Terrorist State.”

Pro-Palestinian demonstrations have become common in the United Kingdom and are held every Saturday, but due to the high number of participants this Saturday – if the figures proposed by the organizing association are confirmed – it will be the largest pro-Palestinian event Until now. so far in London – mobilized double the usual police efforts.
