The Minister of the Interior, Suella Braverman, was fired this Monday by the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, after several controversial statements, according to the BBC.
In the most recent case, Suella Braverman accused the police of “favoritism” for allowing a pro-Palestinian demonstration to take place in London to call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which she described as “a group of pro-Palestinians.” and “hate protesters.”
The protest led to a counter-demonstration by far-right supporters that ended in violent clashes with the police and 126 arrests.
“Right-wing and nationalist protesters who commit aggression are rightly the target of a harsh response, but pro-Palestinian crowds who behave almost identically are largely ignored, even when they clearly violate the law,” wrote Suella Braverman in an article published on Friday in The Times.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan blamed the Home Secretary for the violent counter-demonstration.
“The scenes of disorder that we saw from the extreme right at the Cenotaph are a direct consequence of the words of the Minister of the Interior. The work of the police has become much more difficult,” he wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter). ).
According to the BBC, Rishi Sunak will speak this Tuesday about the resignation of the Home Secretary, which could trigger a major restructuring of the British executive.

This is the second time Suella Braverman has left a position in the British government. In 2022, she was also Home Secretary in Liz Truss’ government, but she resigned after being accused of breaching British government security regulations by sharing security information via a private mobile phone.
