The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejcinovic Buric, warned on Wednesday about the increase in anti-Semitic speeches and actions and called for “intensifying” the fight against anti-Semitism.
“The worrying increase in anti-Semitic acts on our continent in recent weeks poses a grave danger to all our Member States. By attacking synagogues, schools, community centers and the physical integrity of our fellow Jews, it is our values and our freedoms that are being directly targeted.” declared.
Marija Pejcinovic Buric praised “the determination of the governments of the Member States to block the path to these intolerable acts on the European continent.”
“As long as our fellow Jews do not regain a sense of security, as long as their daily lives are filled with fear and anxiety, we must continue our efforts.”, he stressed, calling on national authorities to “intensify their efforts” in the fight against anti-Semitism.

The Council of Europe, which monitors the issue of human rights on the continent, is an international institution that brings together the 46 signatory states of the European Convention on Human Rights.
