The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli Secret Services (Shin Bet) announced this Saturday that several members of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) were killed during a nighttime Israeli army operation near a refugee camp in the West Bank.
The IDF and Shin Bet said in a joint statement that the Israeli army attacked the Balata refugee camp, near the West Bank city of Nablus, by land and air.
Among the dead is Mohamed Zahad, a senior Palestinian militiaman.
Israel has identified Zahad as one of the main promoters of Hamas’s terrorist activities in the West Bank, especially in the Nablus area.
The Palestinian militia member formed a cell of young terrorists whom he instructed and armed to attack Israeli civilians and soldiers.
In addition to the deaths of several Hamas members, the IDF and Shin Bet discovered an explosives laboratory and found that the streets of the city of Balata had been heavily undermined with the aim of causing maximum damage to Israeli ranks.
During the military operation, several gunmen opened fire on Israeli forces in Balata.
The army said it had suffered no casualties in its ranks.
