Peronism is dizzy: does it have a future or just a past?

Like a boxing match, Peronism, lying on the floor of the ring, listens in bewilderment as the referee shouts “one, two, three…”. And will the country ultimately rise again before the “ten” or will there be no response after the heavy defeat of more than 11% against the libertarian Javier Milei?

At Complejo C Art Media, in the Chacarita district, headquarters of Sergio Massa’s candidacy, the presidential candidate, the main leaders and the thousands of supporters of the Unión Por La Patria coalition seemed giddy: after winning the first round with seven points more than Milei, and after firing up their historic electoral machine, they were ultimately defeated, even in places where they thought they were unbeatable.

Massa said in his defeat speech that he is entering a new phase, without specifying whether or not he will leave politics. Cristina Kirchner, who was not at headquarters, is on her way to Rome to meet the Pope. He has been president for eight years and is still the most popular figure in Peronism, but will now face legal investigations under Milei’s hostile presidency. And Alberto Fernández was the main target of internal criticism in the dark night of Chacarita.

Among the dead and injured, the party can now turn to Axel Kiciloff, 52 years old, Cristina’s former Minister of Economy and re-elected Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires, or Máximo Kirchner, 46 years old, deputy, son of Nelson and Christina. JAM
