The Israeli government says it has received the “first list” of hostages who will be released

The Israeli Prime Minister’s office indicated this Thursday that it already has a “first list” of hostages and is in contact with their families, before the truce with Hamas in Gaza and the start of the releases on Friday.

“Israel confirms that it has received an initial list of names. The authorities are verifying the details of the list and are in contact with all families,” according to the office of the head of the Israeli Government, Benjamin Netanyahu.

The office did not specify whether it was referring to all the hostages, all the people who could be freed or the first ones potentially involved on Friday.

The truce in fighting between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas will come into effect on Friday morning and the first hostages will be released in the afternoon, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari announced today.

“The humanitarian pause will begin at 07:00 (05:00 Lisbon time) on Friday (…) and the first group of civilian hostages will be released around 16:00 (14:00 Lisbon time) on the same day,” said Majed Al-Ansari.

According to Qatari diplomacy, 13 women and children detained by the Islamist movement Hamas in Gaza, all members of the same family, will be released, while a still unknown number of Palestinian prisoners detained by Israel will be released at the same time.
