A knife attack outside a primary school in Dublin, capital of the Republic of Ireland, injured five people, including three children, and two of the victims are in serious condition.
The Irish police (Garda) do not suspect terrorist motives and Prime Minister Leo Varadkar has already announced the arrest of a suspect, with authorities now pursuing a “defined line of investigation.” The Garda have also indicated that they are “not looking for anyone else”.
The five people, a man and a woman in addition to the three minors, were taken to various hospitals in the city and the police established a security cordon around Parnell Square.
“One child, a girl, suffered serious injuries and two other children are being treated for less serious injuries. The adult woman is being treated for serious injuries and the adult man for less serious injuries,” authorities also explained.
The incident took place at 1:30 p.m. local time (same time in Lisbon) and the police have already contacted the parents of the three injured children.
The Irish Prime Minister has already thanked the “great speed” of response from the emergency services “who arrived at the scene in a matter of minutes.”
