The first humanitarian aid trucks enter Gaza after the start of the truce

The first trucks of a humanitarian aid caravan began entering the Gaza Strip this Friday through the Rafah border, after the truce came into effect, Egyptian television Al Qahera News reported.

The four-day truce between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas will allow the daily entry of 200 trucks of humanitarian aid into Gaza, an Egyptian government spokesman said this Friday.

The director of the Egyptian State Information Service, Diaa Rashwan, stated that “200 trucks loaded with food, medicine and water will enter daily for the first time since the start of the Israeli war against the Strip, about 50 days ago.”

In a statement released before the start of the truce, Rashwan also stated that 130,000 liters of fuel and four trucks of natural gas from Egypt will enter the Palestinian enclave daily.

Egyptian television broadcast images of trucks waiting at the Rafah border post, which connects the Gaza Strip with Egypt and is the only access route to the territory governed by the Hamas group and not controlled by Israel.

Rashwan recalled that Egypt will continue to receive groups of injured and sick children from the Gaza Strip to receive medical treatment in the country, as well as foreigners and people with dual nationality.

For the first time since the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, authorities in Cairo will allow Palestinians trapped in Egypt to return to the Gaza Strip.

The entry of more humanitarian aid into the Palestinian enclave was one of the points of the truce agreement, which also provides for the release of 50 hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners, and which came into force today at 7:00 a.m. ( May 5). :00 in Lisbon).

The truce came into effect after a night in which Israel continued attacking the Gaza Strip and in which Hamas launched missiles against two Israeli settlements located near the Palestinian enclave, whose inhabitants had already been evacuated.

About two hours before the truce went into effect, the director general of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry, Mounir Al-Bursh, told the France-Presse (AFP) news agency that Israeli soldiers were “taking carry out an operation in the Indonesian area”. Hospital”, located in northern Gaza, where 200 patients are still being treated.

Hamas confirmed “the total cessation of military activities” for four days.

An Egyptian security source told AFP that an Egyptian security delegation will be present in Jerusalem and Ramallah to ensure “compliance with the list” of released Palestinian prisoners.

Israeli security officials, accompanied by Red Cross personnel and Egyptian agents, will be sent to the Rafah border crossing to receive the freed Gaza hostages, who will then fly to Israel, the source added.
