The number of deaths from accidents and occupational diseases reaches around three million each yearaccording to estimates by the International Labor Organization (ILO), published this Sunday.
In a statement, the entity highlighted that “around three million workers die each year due to accidents and work-related illnesses,” and, it assured, “this figure shows the persistent challenges in protecting the health and safety of workers.” workers, all over the world.

According to the ILO, “diseases of the circulatory system, malignant neoplasms [cancro] and respiratory diseases are among the top three causes of work-related death,” and “together, these three categories contribute to more than three-quarters of total work-related mortality.”
These data are included in the New ILO report, “A call for safer and healthier work environments”presented in Australia.
“The report highlights that work-related deaths are unequally distributed,” with the male mortality rate (108.3 per 100,000 in the workforce) being significantly higher than the female mortality rate (48.4 per 100,000 ).
According to the ILO, it is in the Asia-Pacific region where the highest work-related mortality is recorded (63% of the global rate), “due to the size of the region’s workforce”, with “agriculture, Construction, forestry and fishing, as well as the manufacturing industry, are the most dangerous sectors, with 200,000 affected per year.
The organization also estimates that there are 395 million workers around the world who have suffered non-fatal injuries at work, damaging their health and causing them to miss work.
