Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said on Friday that Russian armed forces currently have “about 300 units” of “drones” supplied by Iran.
According to Reznikov, Russian authorities are now in talks with Tehran to buy a few thousand more of these unmanned aerial vehicles, the UNIAN news agency said.
“Whether it will happen or not, we’ll see. But we have to be prepared for it, so we don’t stand still. We’re developing systems to repel them. Our military is taking them down, we’ve already learned how to do that.” the”said the Ukrainian defense minister.
Ukrainian authorities have accused Iran since August of supplying so-called “kamikaze” drones that crash into targets to the Russian military, although Tehran denies being involved in that transaction, as does Moscow.
In late September, Ukraine revoked the credentials of the Iranian ambassador in Kiev and announced a significant reduction in Iran’s diplomatic presence.
The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on Feb. 24 has already resulted in more than 13 million people having fled — more than six million internally displaced persons and more than 7.5 million to European countries — according to the most recent UN data, which rank this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).
The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the generality of the international community, which has responded by sending arms to Ukraine and Russia of political and economic sanctions.
