The Israeli army confirms the death of five hostages in Gaza

The Israeli army confirmed this Friday the death of five hostages held captive in the Gaza Strip, having already informed the family of what happened, the army spokesman announced.

“In recent days, the Israeli army and police have informed the families” of the five hostages of their deaths, the spokesman said, quoted by the France Press (AFP) news agency.

The announcement was made shortly after the end of the week-long truce between Israel and Hamas, who have been at war since October 7.

After a week-long truce, the Israeli army today resumed intense bombing in the Gaza Strip, which, according to Hamas, caused almost 200 deaths.

The Israeli army claimed to have attacked “more than 200 terrorist targets”, but AFP journalists on the ground saw thousands of Palestinians fleeing towards hospitals and schools “converted into makeshift camps for displaced people”.

AFP reports that as soon as the first explosions occurred in the Gaza Strip, thousands of Palestinians, some of them asleep, took to the roads again.

According to the Ministry of Health of Hamas, which holds power in Gaza, more than 178 people were killed in Israeli air, sea and land bombardments against the small territory, from which thick clouds of gray smoke rose.
