Israel and Hamas broke a ceasefire on Friday morning, brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the United States, which provided for the release of 105 hostages by the Islamist group (81 Israelis and 24 foreigners) in exchange for 240 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. all women. and minors, resuming Israeli bombings and Palestinian rocket fire.

The ceasefire, from November 24 to 30, marked a pause in fighting in the war that broke out on October 7 and allowed humanitarian aid to enter the devastated Gaza Strip.

According to Israeli authorities, Hamas still has 132 hostages alive, including two children: brothers Ariel and Kfir Bibas, aged 4 years and 10 months respectively, kidnapped with their mother, Shiri Silverman Bibas – of Argentine descent – ​​and their father. Yarden Bibas.

Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said on Friday evening that Hamas had not fulfilled its promise to release the mother and two children of the Bibas family. However, Hamas claims that the three were killed by Israeli bombing and offered to hand over their bodies, which Israel did not accept.

The war broke out on October 7, after a Hamas attack that included the launch of thousands of rockets into Israel and the infiltration of about 3,000 militiamen who killed about 1,200 people and kidnapped another 240 in Israeli villages near the Gaza Strip.

Since then, Israeli forces have waged a relentless air, land and sea offensive against the Palestinian enclave, claiming more than 15,000 lives and leaving nearly two million people displaced amid a severe humanitarian crisis.
