The United States could run out of resources to support Ukraine militarily if Congress does not vote on new funding by the end of the year, an administration official has warned.
“We are short on money and soon we will be short on time,” said White House Budget Director Shalanda Young.
“I want to be clear: If Congress does nothing, we will run out of resources to deliver more weapons and equipment to Ukraine and materials from U.S. military stockpiles by the end of the year.”declared the head of the White House in a letter addressed to the leader of the Chamber of Deputies, cited by the France-Presse agency.
“There is no magical funding available to meet the emergency. We are running out of money and soon out of time”Shalanda Young warned.
This is an extraordinary envelope of more than 100 billion dollars that the US President, Democrat Joe Biden, requested from Congress on October 20, with the aim of responding to the major emergencies of the moment, namely helping of Israel and Ukraine, which are confronting China and responding to the arrival of migrants at the southern border.
“Cutting off supplies of U.S. weapons and equipment would destroy Ukraine’s war effort, jeopardize Ukraine’s progress and increase the likelihood of Russian victories.”added Shalanda Young.
‘Our deliveries of military aid have already decreased’noted the person in charge.
“This is not a problem for next year. Now is the time to help democratic Ukraine fight Russian aggression,” concluded Shalanda Young.
The United States, the main supplier of military aid to Ukraine, has been in deep budget uncertainty for months due to endless parliamentary unrest.
The Congress of the most important world power – consisting of the Senate, with a Democratic majority, and the House of Representatives, with a Republican majority – has not yet voted on a final budget for the financial year that started on October 1.
The U.S. federal government is currently operating under an emergency extension that expires in mid-January.
