A former diplomat who served as ambassador of the United States of America (USA) in Bolivia was accused of being a secret agent of the Cuban intelligence services decades ago, the United States Department of Justice reported this Monday.
U.S. authorities file court documents to allege that Manuel Rocha has been involved in “clandestine activities” on behalf of Cuba since at least 1981, having met with Cuban intelligence agents and providing false information to U.S. government officials.
The complaint – filed with federal judicial authorities in Miami – accuses Rocha of acting as an illegal agent of a foreign government.
The defendant, 73, had a 25-year career as a U.S. diplomat, including senior positions in Bolivia, Argentina and in the U.S. Interests Section in Havana.
The former diplomat is expected to appear in court this Monday.
