Israel: Projectiles fired from the Gaza Strip injure several people

Several people were injured in Israel this Tuesday as a result of projectiles fired from the Gaza Strip, which has been controlled by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas since 2007, Israeli authorities said.

According to the Israeli ambulance service, known as Magen David Adom (Red Star of David), two 60-year-old women living in the town of Ascalon, in the south of the country, were struck by shrapnel when one of the projectiles fell. on their house.

Shortly afterwards, authorities said a 40-year-old man was also injured by projectile fragments in the city of Tel Aviv, further north, when he fell on a busy street.

It is estimated that fifteen ‘rockets’ have been launched over this city from Gaza.

For their part, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), indicated in their report on the digital platform Telegram that they had attacked the Israeli ‘kibbutz’ of Kissufim, located in the southwest of Israel, very close to the border with the Gaza Strip.

To do this, they used Rajum rockets with a diameter of 114 millimeters, the Palestinian daily Filastin, affiliated with Hamas, reported.

On October 7, Hamas fighters – classified as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union and Israel – carried out an attack on Israeli territory of unprecedented proportions since the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, killing more than 1,200, mostly civilians, 5,000 wounded and about 240 hostages.

In retaliation, Israel declared a war to “eradicate” Hamas, which began with cuts to food, water, electricity and fuel supplies in the Gaza Strip and daily bombing, followed by a ground offensive.

The war between Israel and Hamas, which enters its 60th day today and continues to threaten to spread across the Middle East, has so far left more than 15,200 dead in the Gaza Strip, most of them civilians, and more than 40,000 injured. according to the latest assessment by local authorities, confirmed by the UN, and about 1.9 million displaced, also according to the UN, pushing the poor Palestinian enclave into a serious humanitarian crisis.

At least 248 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or in settler attacks since October 7 in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
