Actress Susan Sarandon lost the opportunity to appear in a film following her recent comments about Jews at a pro-Palestinian demonstration in New York, despite the Oscar winner recanting due to the “terrible mistake”.
The actress’s apology was not enough to change the decision of production company PTO Films, which targeted 77-year-old Sarandon for her short film “Slipping Away,” Efe reported on Tuesday.
The independent film production company’s founder, David Barroso, assured the New York Post that “formal negotiations” with the actress never took place.
“As a company, PTO Films would like to make it clear that the opinions expressed by Susan Sarandon do not reflect the views of our organization,” Barroso emphasized, making it clear that “they have decided to pursue other options.”

Following this comment, Hollywood’s top talent agency, United Talent Agency, stopped representing the famous actress, adding the decision of PTO Films.
Sarandon apologized in a post on the social network Instagram, stating that he had made a “terrible mistake” as his style of expression suggested that Jews did not know what persecution was until recently “while the truth is the opposite.”
The Best Actress Oscar winner Dead Man Walking (1995) also cited “centuries of oppression and genocide in Europe” against Jews and the 2018 synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as examples.
