Public policy specialist Martilene dos Santos believes that the current political crisis in Guinea-Bissau, due to the dissolution of Parliament last Monday, can be resolved with an internal understanding between the parties and without calling voters to the polls.
“At this time, as the presidential decree dissolving the Assembly of the Republic does not mention elections, the possibility of finding solutions in the current framework has been created, but this depends largely on the will of the players“he said, in statements to TSFGuinean Martilene dos Santos.

“The parties are the main actors in the system,” he reiterated.
Martilene dos Santos also considered that the constitution of a new Government should be imminent and appealed to the “serenity” of the people.

The president of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, decided this Monday to dissolve Parliament, following clashes between security forces on Thursday and Friday.
Sissoco Embaló considered “a coup d’état” the fact that the National Guard took the Minister of Finance, Suleimane Seide, and the Secretary of State for Finance, António Monteiro, from the cells of the Judicial Police on Thursday night.
As a result of this event, armed confrontations occurred between the National Guard and the Presidency battalion, which were resolved with the intervention of the Military Police and which culminated in the arrest of the commander of the National Guard, Vitor Tchongo.
