Taylor Swift named “person of the year” by Time magazine

This Wednesday, the American singer and songwriter Taylor Swift was named “person of the year” by Time magazine, which described the artist as “heroine of her own story.”

“Swift is one of the few people who is both a writer and the heroine of her own story,” wrote Sam Jacobs, editor-in-chief of Time, in a statement cited by Agence France-Press.

According to Time, Taylor Swift’s achievements “as an artist – culturally, critically and commercially – are so numerous that it seems irrelevant to count them.”

As a pop star, the magazine placed Swift alongside Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Madonna. As a songwriter, the publication compares her to Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney and Joni Mitchell.

As a businessman, according to Time, the artist built an empire valued at more than one billion euros.

“As a celebrity, who as a woman is scrutinized in everything from who she dates to how she dresses, she has long deserved constant attention and knows how to use it,” the magazine states.

“But this year something changed. Talking about his movements was like talking about politics or the weather, a language so spoken that it did not need context. He became the main character in the world,” the publication highlights.

In 2023, Taylor Swift was the most streamed artist in the world on Spotify, with over 26 billion streams. currents since January 1st.

The artist also breaks records in the cinema. The film “The Eras Tour”, which portrays Taylor Swift’s world tour that began this year, reached 85 million euros at the box office in the first weekend alone.

“The Eras Tour” passes through Portugal next year. Taylor Swift has concerts scheduled for May 24 and 25, 2024 at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon.
