Russia’s intelligence services (FSB) announced on Thursday the arrest of a Belarusian citizen accused of involvement in two attacks on trains in Eastern Siberia “on behalf of Ukraine”.
“The terrorist act organized by the Ukrainian special services has been cleared up (…) a Belarusian citizen born in 1971 was detained in the Omsk region for blowing up two oil convoys on November 29 and 30,” the FSB quoted. Russian news agencies report this.
So far, no further details have been released about the Belarusian citizen.
Today, the FSB also announced in a statement the arrest in the Kaliningrad region, a Russian enclave on the Baltic coast, of a man suspected of “treason and sabotage.”
According to the FSB, the detainee contacted an agent of the Ukrainian secret service via the Internet, who asked him to find people who would “set fire to the telecommunications and transport infrastructure” in exchange for financial compensation.
Between February and March this year, the suspect involved a number of people in fifteen entities in the Russian Federation in criminal activities, the statement said.
“More than 15 cases of arson organized by the suspect were investigated, five of which were foiled thanks to the actions of the security forces, who arrested 10 of the perpetrators,” the FSB said.
In addition, according to the investigation, the detainee provided information to the Ukrainian secret services about the military unit in the Kaliningrad region where he had previously lived.
