Wesley Brownlee, 43, was arrested Saturday morning after going “on the hunt” for another possible victim, local police chief Stanley McFadden announced at a news conference.
“He was on a killing mission,” the police officer said.
“We are sure we have prevented another murder,” the police officer added, adding that the suspect was carrying a firearm when he was detained.
Determine the motive for the crimes.
In April 2021, a man was executed in Oakland, 50 miles west of Stockton. Then, between July 8 and September 27, another five men were killed in a Stockton neighborhood. All these crimes were committed in partially similar circumstances. Ultimately, a woman survived a gun attack believed to have been carried out by Wesley Brownlee. Investigators are still trying to determine a possible motive.
The suspect is expected to appear in court on Tuesday to be charged, local prosecutor Tori Verber Salazar said, adding that her office is reviewing the evidence to determine what charges will be brought against him. “This crime was solved because we are residents of Stockton. Because we do not come to us to reign this type of terror”, declared the magistrate.
