The president of Guinea-Bissau reappoints Geraldo Martins as prime minister

The president of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, re-elected Geraldo Martins as prime minister this Tuesday, the Guinean Presidency announced through a decree.

Geraldo Martins is vice president of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), which leads the Inclusive Alliance Platform coalition (PAI – Terra Ranka), which won the last legislative elections in Guinea-Bissau, held last June . .

Geraldo Martins takes office this Tuesday, at 3:30 p.m. (same time in Lisbon), at the Presidency of the Republic in Bissau.

The decree, read by Fernando Delfim da Silva, political advisor to the head of state, comes after Sissoco Embaló announced the dissolution of the Guinean Parliament, on December 4, after military clashes that he considered an attempted coup d’état.
