Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in Oslo on Wednesday that he sees no reason for Hungary to block his country’s accession to the European Union (EU), a central issue at the community summit that starts in Brussels on Thursday.

During a joint press conference with the heads of government of the Scandinavian countries, Zelensky stressed the importance of a “truly constructive meeting” between Ukraine and Hungary, as the two countries “are neighbors and have common borders.”
The Ukrainian president, who is in Oslo to participate in a meeting with the leaders of the five Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland), in which Zelensky wants to find support for his project for the production of weapons of the NATO type to finance on Ukrainian territory stressed that he will discuss the strengthening of military, political and economic cooperation, but also “the common future in Europe”.
The Ukrainian head of state played down during his two-day visit to Washington his failure to unblock Republican opposition to sending new US military aid to Kiev, from where he flew to Oslo.
Zelensky assured that he had received “positive signals” about this support, but admitted that it was necessary to respect the times and internal issues of that country.
During his meeting with the Prime Ministers of Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Iceland and the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, Zelenskiy received new promises of military and economic support for as long as necessary for Kiev.
“The Nordic countries stand with Ukraine, individually and together, and will continue to do so,” Icelandic Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir said.
His Danish counterpart, Mette Frederiksen, said he will present a new military package worth nearly a billion euros on Thursday to help Ukraine, which includes “ammunition, tanks and drones.”
At the same time, The host of the meeting, the head of the Norwegian government, Jonas Gahr Støre, announced a new civilian and humanitarian aid package worth three billion kroner (254 million euros), taken from the five-year plan presented a few months ago and of which the total value is 75,000 million crowns (6,351 million euros).
“The rest of Europe must do the same as the Scandinavian countries,” Zelensky said, thanking the leaders of each country one by one for their support of Kiev.
During your stay in Norway, Zelensky is also expected to meet with Kings Harald V and Sónia, at the Royal Palace, as well as businessmen and politicians.
This is not the first time that Zelensky has visited the Scandinavian countries since the start of the war with Russia in February 2022.
The Ukrainian head of state attended a similar meeting in Helsinki last May, and in August he traveled to Copenhagen and Stockholm, where he received promises to send fighters to Ukraine.
