Russian President Vladimir Putin will address Russians and the world this Thursday in the first major press conference since the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022.
Putin will combine the press conference with a public question session, the so-called Hot Line.
Russia’s lack of success in the war against Ukraine, which began in February 2022, was one of the reasons for the cancellation of Putin’s annual conference last year, according to the Spanish agency EFE.
The Kremlin (Presidency) announced that Putin had reserved Wednesday to prepare for the event and state television reported, on the same day, that more than 1.5 million questions had already been received from the public.
The Russian leader is expected to analyze the situation on the Ukrainian front, where Moscow’s troops have been taking command for weeks.
He should also talk about the situation in the world, the confrontation with the West and economic issues, including measures to deal with the sanctions imposed on Moscow.
He is also expected to speak about his already announced candidacy for a new term in the March 2024 presidential elections.
Putin, 71, changed the Constitution in 2020 to be able to remain in the Kremlin for two more terms of six years each, until 2036, when he will be 84 years old.
