Ukraine reported this Sunday that Russia is forcing hundreds of Ukrainian employees working at the Zaporijia nuclear power plant to obtain Russian passports and sign contracts with the Russian nuclear agency Rosatom.
“The Russian aggressor state, under whose temporary occupation critical infrastructure is located, is increasing pressure on Ukrainian citizens working at the nuclear power plant to force them to obtain Russian passports and sign contracts with Rosatom,” said the Ukrainian military intelligence service GUR.
In a message published on the Telegram channel, the GUR said that “several hundred Ukrainian workers at the nuclear power plant must obtain passports from the aggressor state and sign contracts by December 31, 2023.”
According to the Ukrainian secret services, Russia is exerting psychological pressure on Ukrainian experts to achieve this goal.
It is also selectively denying Ukrainian workers access to workplaces and canceling their security passes, he added.
GUR stated that when Ukrainian employees refuse to sign contracts with Rosatom and obtain Russian passports, “Russian special services try to sow distrust among them and create conditions for anonymous complaints, especially through specially created Telegram ‘bots'” for that purpose.
At the same time, according to Ukrainian military intelligence, dissatisfaction is growing among Russian workers arriving at the nuclear power plant, because instead of a two-month assignment they have to work in Energodar, the city where the nuclear power plant is located. six months or more.
Zaporijia is the largest power station in Europe and was captured by Russian troops in March 2022.
