France admits sanctions against “extremist Israeli settlers”

France “decided take action against certain extremist Israeli settlers”, declared this Tuesday the head of French diplomacy, Catherine Colonna.

“I saw with my own eyes the violence committed by some of the extremist settlers. It is unacceptable,” Colonna said, returning from a trip to Israel, the Palestinian territories and Lebanon.

“France decided to take action against some of these extremist settlersidentified as such and based on documented information,” he added.

Paris had already indicated, at the beginning of December, that it was considering the possibility of applying sanctions such as a ban on the entry of “certain settlers” into French territory and the freezing of assets, after having requested that measures be taken at the European level.

At the beginning of December, The United States imposed sanctions on dozens of settlerswhich now are Prohibited from entering the United States.

Settler violence has redoubled since the October 7 attacks by the Hamas group in Israel, in which 1,200 people were killed and more than two hundred taken hostage.

According to Palestinian health authorities, more than 290 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers in the West Bank since the start of the war.
