A video circulating on social media shows the exact moment when part of the ceiling of a church in Montezuma, inland Minas Gerais, Brazil, collapsed during a celebration on Thursday evening. According to the fire department, about 300 people were on the scene at the time and 89 were injured.
The accident happened in the Igreja Matriz Santa Ana e São Joaquim, during the celebration of a Christmas mass where several children were present.
Authorities said of the 80 injuries, 72 were minor, with only abrasions and minor wounds. They were immediately brought to the scene. The eight most seriously ill were transported to hospital.
Firefighters inspected the site to see if there were any victims under the rubble, but none were found. After this incident the church was closed and access is prohibited.
