Israel’s chief of staff says war will last “many months”

The Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, Herzi Halevi, assumed this Tuesday that the war against the Hamas group in the Gaza Strip “will continue for many more months.”

“The objectives of this war are not easy to achieve. The war will continue for many more months,” Halevi said during a press conference after meeting with soldiers in the Gaza Strip.

“There are no magic solutions or shortcuts to dismantling a terrorist organization, except persistent and determined fighting. And we are very determined,” added the Israeli Army Chief of Staff, adding that the Hamas leadership will be destroyed, “whether it leads a week or months.”

Halevi explained that military pressure will allow the objectives of the war to be achieved – dismantling the Islamist group Hamas and the return of the hostages – and assured that the strategy is being fulfilled as established.

“We killed many Hamas terrorists and commanders. Some surrendered to our forces and hundreds were taken prisoner. We destroyed underground infrastructure and large quantities of weapons,” Halevi said.

The Israeli army commander also promised transparency throughout the process, saying he will “reveal all information to the public,” referring to data on the progress of the military operation against Hamas.

Halevi admitted that some decisions made by the commanders of the Israeli forces are difficult, but assured that “all of them can be thoroughly investigated.”

Israel has been at war with Hamas, supported by Iran, since October 7, when commandos from the Palestinian Islamist group invaded the south of the country from the Gaza Strip.

The attack left 1,200 dead, according to Israeli authorities.

In response, Israel launched an offensive against the Gaza Strip, in which 20,915 people died, according to a report published today by Hamas structures.
