The president of Turkey this Wednesday compared the Israeli prime minister to Adolf Hitler, in a speech that has already earned Israel’s response. In a statement, Benjamin Netanyahu accuses Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of “carrying out genocide against the Kurds” and adds that he “is the last person who can give moral lessons” to Israelis.
The Turkish head of state, who has openly criticized Israel’s actions since October 7, stated that the Israelis will make the world “miss Hitler” and considered that Netanyahu’s actions do not differ in any way from the German dictator’s attitudes.
Erdoğan also regrets the overwhelming support of the United States for Israel: “With all this support, what did they do to more than 20 thousand inhabitants of Gaza? They killed them,” he stressed.
Quoted by Reuters, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, speaking at an event in Ankara, said that the way Jews were treated during the Holocaust is identical to the way Israel treats civilians in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Associated Press, Erdoğan, who spoke at an awards ceremony in Ankara, argued that Israelis “used to talk about Hitler in a strange way,” but now accuses them of having a similar attitude toward Palestinians.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who has already referred to Benjamin Netanyahu as “the butcher of Gaza”, also accuses him of genocide and calls for him to be prosecuted by an international war crimes court.
The Israeli chief executive has already returned the adjectives adopted by the president of Turkey, stating that the country “is carrying out a genocide against the Kurds.”
“[Erdoğan] “He has the world record for journalists arrested for opposing his government, he is the last person who can give us moral lessons,” Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated, in a statement cited by The Guardian.
The Israeli leader also affirms that the Israel Defense Forces “are the most moral Army in the world” and adds that they are fighting “the most despicable and brutal terrorist organization in the world: Hamas-Daesh.”
Israeli War Cabinet Minister Benny Gantz also “condemned” Erdoğan’s statements, which he considers “flagrant distortions of reality and a desecration of the memory of the Holocaust.”
“Hamas was the organization that perpetrated a despicable massacre. Eliminating Hamas’ threat to the citizens of Israel is an existential necessity and an incomparable moral imperative,” he argued.
