Ukraine on edge. Russian attacks on several cities, including Kiev

The entire territory of Ukraine is under air alert after Russia carried out a series of attacks this Friday on several cities, including the capital Kiev, Kharkov (northeast), Lviv (west) and Odessa (south).

The air raid siren was activated throughout Ukraine around 7 a.m. (5 a.m. in Lisbon).

Several explosions were heard in Kiev and the mayor asked the population to seek shelter. Still, Vitali assured Klitschko that the “anti-aircraft defenses are actively working.”

According to the local military government, three people were injured in an attack on Konotop, in the Soumy region of northeastern Ukraine, where an apartment building was hit. Three Iranian Shahed drones were destroyed on the spot, the military added.

The city of Kharkiv has been hit by at least ten attacks in two waves, with no casualties so far, the head of the local military government, Oleg Synegubov, assured.

A hospital in Kyivskyi district was damaged, local police said.

Kharkov Mayor Igor Terekhov stated that the attacks were carried out with S-300 and X-22 missiles and disrupted electricity supplies and public transport.

In Odessa, a building was damaged in an overnight attack, but the resulting fire was quickly brought under control, Mayor Gennady Trukhanov said.

In Lviv, a city less frequently targeted because it is located in the far west of Ukraine, Mayor Andriy Sadovyi spoke of “two attacks” out of a total of “ten”. [drones] Shaheds” and also referred to “a fire in a critical installation”, without giving details.

Ukrainian authorities also recorded explosions in the Dnipro region.

According to the military, the attacks included the launch of “guided missiles” by Russian Tu95MS bombers.

On Thursday, Russian attacks killed three people and injured nine in a Russian artillery strike on two villages on the banks of the Dnieper, the river that separates the Russian and Ukrainian armies in the Zaporijia region of southern Ukraine, local authorities said.

The governor of Bilenke village, Yuri Malachko, stated that all the victims were civilians.

Russian forces also carried out several attacks in the Kharkov region of northeastern Ukraine, according to regional police.

A woman in her 60s died of her injuries after a bombing in Vovchansk, near the border with Russia, and two other women were injured, the same source said.

Three women, aged between 58 and 76, were also injured in an airstrike in the village of Glushkivka, authorities said.

These attacks come after a Ukrainian aviation-launched Storm Shadow missile managed to sink the Russian Novocherkassk landing ship in Crimea on Tuesday.
