The entire territory of Ukraine is under air alert, after Russia today launched a series of attacks against several cities, including the capital, kyiv, Kharkiv (northeast), Lviv (west) and Odessa (south).
The air alert was activated throughout Ukraine around 7:00 a.m. (5:00 a.m. in Lisbon).
Several explosions were heard in kyiv and the mayor asked the population to seek shelter. Still, Vitali Klitschko assured that “the anti-aircraft defense is actively working.”
Three people were injured in an attack in Konotop, in the Soumy region of northeastern Ukraine, where an apartment block was hit, according to the local military administration. Three Iranian Shahed drones were destroyed at the scene, the military added.
The city of Kharkiv has been hit by at least ten attacks in two waves, which have so far caused no casualties, said the head of the local military administration, Oleg Synegubov.
A hospital in Kyivskyi district was damaged, local police said.
Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov said the attacks were carried out with S-300 and X-22 missiles and disrupted power supply and public transport.
In Odessa, a building was damaged in an overnight attack, but the resulting fire was quickly brought under control, Mayor Gennady Trukhanov said.
In Lviv, a city less attacked because it is located in the far west of Ukraine, Mayor Andriy Sadovyi spoke of “two attacks” out of a total of “ten [drones] Shaheds” and also referred to “a fire at a crucial facility”, without giving details.
Ukrainian authorities also recorded explosions in the Dnipro region.
According to the military, the attacks included the launching of “guided missiles” by Russian Tu95MS bombers.
On Thursday, Russian strikes killed three people and wounded nine in a Russian artillery attack on two villages on the banks of the Dnieper, the river that separates the Russian and Ukrainian armies in the Zaporizhia region of southern Ukraine, according to local authorities.
The governor of the town of Bilenke, Yuri Malachko, stated that all the victims were civilians.
Russian forces also carried out several attacks in the Kharkiv region of northeastern Ukraine, according to regional police.
A woman in her sixties died from her injuries after a bombing in Vovchansk, very close to the border with Russia, and two other women were injured, the same source indicated.
Three women, ages 58 to 76, were also wounded in an airstrike in the village of Glushkivka, authorities said.
These attacks come after a Storm Shadow missile launched by Ukrainian aviation managed, on Tuesday, to cause the sinking of the Russian landing ship “Novocherkassk” in Crimea.
