A Hamas delegation will travel to Cairo this Friday to share its position on the Egyptian plan that provides for a ceasefire to end the Israeli offensives in Gaza, a source from the Palestinian Islamist movement reported this Thursday.
The plan drawn up by Egypt was presented last week to officials from Hamas and Islamic Jihad, which is also involved in the fighting against the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip, during visits by leaders of both movements to Cairo.
According to sources close to Hamas, the Egyptian plan, in three phases, foresees in its latest version of renewable truces, a phased release of dozens of hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
Ultimately, this plan leads to a ceasefire to put an end to the hostilities unleashed on October 7, after the unprecedented bloody attack perpetrated by the Islamist movement on Israeli soil.
According to the same sources, the plan also foresees the creation of a Palestinian government of technocrats, after a dialogue in which “all Palestinian factions” will participate and which will be responsible for governing and rebuilding the Gaza Strip after the war.
A Hamas source, who spoke to France-Presse (AFP) on condition of anonymity, stated this Thursday that “a high-level delegation” from the Hamas political office (based in Qatar) will travel to Cairo this Friday, which which is fair, for a meeting with the Egyptian authorities.
At this meeting, Hamas will convey the response of the Palestinian factions, which includes several observations on the Egyptian plan.
These observations refer in particular to “the modalities of exchange [de reféns] plans and the number of Palestinians to be released,” as well as “obtaining guarantees for a full Israeli military withdrawal from the Gaza Strip,” the official added.
The head of the Egyptian State Information Service, which acts as a spokesperson for the Government, confirmed today in a statement that Egypt has presented a plan “aimed at gathering the opinions of all parties involved in order to put an end to the dispossession of Palestinian rights “. blood, stop the aggression against the Gaza Strip and restore peace and security in the region.
“This proposal comprises three successive and interconnected phases leading to a ceasefire,” added Diaa Rashwan.
The government spokesperson also highlighted that Egypt “has not received the responses from the parties involved in this phase”, also guaranteeing that they will be made public “in detail” when Cairo receives information from the different actors.
Israel and Hamas have been fighting a war that has lasted 83 days, since the attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement that caused around 1,200 deaths, mostly civilians, according to an AFP count based on the latest official Israeli data.
In retaliation, Israel vowed to destroy Hamas, bombed the Gaza Strip and launched a ground offensive on October 27.
Since the start of Israeli military operations, 21,320 people have been killed in Gaza, most of them women and children, according to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry.
