Death toll rises to 18 in Russian attacks on Ukraine

The number of deaths and injuries caused this Friday rose to 18 in a series of attacks launched by Russia against several cities in Ukraine, Ukrainian authorities reported.

This Friday, attacks were reported in kyiv, Lviv, Odessa, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and other Ukrainian cities.

Russia launched “more than 150 missiles and combat drones” against Ukrainian cities on Friday, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin said in a statement, adding that extensive damage included residential buildings, educational institutions and hospitals.

A hospital in Kyivskyi district was damaged, local police said.

The wave of attacks caused the activation of the air alert throughout Ukraine, around 7:00 a.m. (5:00 a.m. in Lisbon).

Three people were injured in an attack in Konotop, in the Soumy region of northeastern Ukraine, where an apartment block was hit, according to the local military administration. Three Iranian Shahed drones were destroyed at the scene, the military added.

In Odessa, a building was damaged in an overnight attack, but the resulting fire was quickly brought under control, Mayor Gennady Trukhanov said.

This new wave of attacks shows that Ukraine needs “more help” from the international community, said the Ukrainian president’s chief of staff, Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Missiles are flying over our cities again and civilians are the target,” Andriy Yermak reported on the Telegram messaging platform.
