More than 600 civilian bodies exhumed in Kharkiv

Ukrainian authorities have already exhumed more than 600 civilian bodies in the Kharkiv region in the country’s northeast, following the withdrawal of Russian troops, Interior Minister Denis Monastyrsky said.

“We have already exhumed more than 600 bodies in the Kharkiv region. We were not able to identify them immediately,” the minister explained.

“We understand that as we get closer to victory, new war crimes committed by the occupiers are revealed,” he stressed.

Monastyrsky noted that the authorities faced the same situation in all the territories liberated by Russia, referring to the “torture chambers left behind by the Russians.”

There is a problem, he said, noting that the identification of the corpses is done through DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) analysis, which must be carried out in special laboratories.

“Our international partners helped us to do this quickly, but we understand that this work takes weeks, sometimes months, to figure out exactly who was tortured,” he added.

The head of the Internal Administration of Ukraine also warned that “any occupied territory means dozens of tortured civilians, prisoners (…)”, saying that this is what the country “faces every day”.

The military offensive launched on February 24 by Russia in Ukraine has already caused the flight of more than 13 million people -more than six million internally displaced persons and more than 7.6 million to European countries-, according to the latest data from the UN, which places this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since the Second World War (1939-1945).

The Russian invasion -justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security- was condemned by the generality of the international community, which has responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and imposing Russia since political and economic point of view. sanctions

The UN presented as confirmed since the beginning of the war 6,306 civilian deaths and 9,602 wounded, highlighting that these figures are far below the real ones.
