The US State Department criticized the “inflammatory and irresponsible rhetoric” of several ministers of the Israeli government, who proposed the relocation of Palestinian citizens from the Gaza Strip outside this territory.
The spokesman for North American diplomacy, Matthew Miller, issued a statement in which he directly criticizes the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, and the Minister of Finance, Bezalel Smotrich, both of whom have a Zionist and ultranationalist profile.
“The government of Israel, including the Prime Minister [Benjamin Netanyahu]has repeatedly and systematically told us that Such statements do not reflect the policy of the Israeli government.”Miller said.
Washington, he added, has been “clear, consistent and unequivocal” about Palestinian sovereignty in the Gaza Strip, both now and in the future, when the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) is defeated.
“Gaza is Palestinian land and will remain Palestinian land, without Hamas having control of its future and without terrorist groups capable of threatening Israel. “This is the future we want, in the interests of Israelis and Palestinians, the surrounding region and the world,” the State Department spokesperson stressed.
This position of American diplomacy provoked a reaction from Ben Gvir, who, on the social network X, stated that, despite “appreciating” the United States, Israel “is no longer a star on the American flag.”
As he said: “The United States is our best friend, but above all we will do what is best for the State of Israel,” that is, he detailed, “the emigration of hundreds of thousands of people from the Gaza Strip will allow the residents of the enclave to return home and live safely.”
On Monday, Itamar Ben Gvir called for the return of Jewish settlers to the Gaza Strip and the “encouragement” of the Palestinian population to emigrate, following a similar call from Bezalel Smotrich.
“The promotion of a solution that encourages the emigration of the inhabitants of Gaza is necessary. It is a correct, fair, moral and humane solution,” said Ben Gvir during a meeting of his party, as he himself announced on social networks.
“This is the time to encourage the emigration of Gazans to other countries,” he added.
