The head of Portuguese diplomacy, João Gomes Cravinho, was honored by the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, with an official decoration for the work and support that Portugal has provided to Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE) announced this Thursday.
According to a note from the MNE, which cites the presidential decree, already published, the award with the ‘Order of Jaroslav the Wise’ is awarded “for an important personal contribution to strengthening interstate cooperation, support for state sovereignty and integrity territorial”. of Ukraine and the promotion of the Ukrainian State in the world”.
The Portuguese minister conveyed to his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, that he considers this distinction “as a generous tribute to the Portuguese people, who are at Ukraine’s side yesterday, today and tomorrow.”
João Gomes Cravinho also reiterated “Portugal’s support for the country invaded by Russia”, hoping that 2024 “will be the year in which Ukraine is completely free of the brutal and illegal occupation forces”, according to the same EMN note.
